This is the place to learn about the many ways to get involved at First UMC.

Learn & Grow

We offer a variety of Life Groups, where children, youth, and adults can grow in faith. Our quarterly Launch Lunches provide a time for the whole congregation to share food and fun, and get connected with a class or small group.

Serving God by serving other people is a great way to grow in faith! We offer many ways to serve within and beyond the walls of our church. Here are some examples:
Greeters ~ Welcome members and guests and help keep us connected to one another
Ushers ~ Assist the congregation and leaders during worship
Heart & Hands of Jesus ~ Congregational caregivers visit persons who are hospitalized or homebound and offer extra support for members of the congregation in times of crisis or transition
Missions ~ Projects and activities throughout the year serve the underprivileged and marginalized in our community and around the world.

The opportunities to practice compassion at First UMC are endless! Here are just a few ways you could serve with us in ministry:
  • Prepare & serve hot meals at Grace Resurrection Community Center
  • Serve Greenville area families at the Grace Resurrection Community Center Food Pantry
  • Bake cookies for Kairos Prison Ministry
  • Donate to financial and material collections for a wide variety of local, regional, and global ministries
  • Save & donate labels for education
  • Donate Christmas presents for local children
Projects are chosen, organized, and promoted by our Missions Team. Contact us to learn more about upcoming projects, or find out how you can serve on the Missions Team.

Heart & Hands of Jesus

Heart and Hands of Jesus is a caregiving ministry for individuals facing life-changing events. At First United Methodist Church, we believe God has called us to provide a ministry of compassion as Jesus did. Heart and Hands of Jesus offers one-on-one and two-person caregiving teams for persons seeking support and encouragement in difficult times. The Heart and Hands of Jesus team also provides visitation ministry for persons in short- or long-term healthcare facilities, as well as homebound individuals. Contact us to learn more about the Heart and Hands of Jesus ministry, or to request a visit from a congregational caregiver.

Baptism & Membership

Through Baptism we are welcomed into the family of God, along with Christians everywhere. Baptism is a gift freely given to us by God. It is a sign of God’s love and forgiveness at work in our lives, even before we know how to recognize or name God. Therefore, in The United Methodist Church, people of any age can be baptized, including infants and young children. Baptism is something we experience and celebrate together, during which the congregation vows to encourage, nurture and serve you as you live out your Christian faith. As a result, all baptisms take place during our worship services. You can become a member of First UMC by baptism, transfer of church membership, or profession of faith in Jesus Christ. Becoming a member is a sign of spiritual maturity and a step of commitment. At least once a year, the Pastor teaches a short-term class that covers the basics of what it means to be a United Methodist Christian and fulfills our requirement of preparation for membership. When joining, our members make a vow to faithfully participation in the ministries of this congregation by their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. That means:   Be “all in” for our mission. Worship at First UMC as often as possible. Participate in a Bible study or small group for learning & growth. Give in proportion to your income to support the ministry of the local church. Serve inside and outside the First UMC congregation. Contact us to learn more about Baptism or Membership at First UMC.
